More Than Just A Car

A perfect touring car, this car loves long trips.

The 2.3 Litre 16-valve four cylinder engine is normally aspirated, producing 110 kW (148 hp).

The
Saab Information Display (SID) tells you:

  • Outdoor temperature
  • Time of day
  • Average fuel consumption
  • Distance to empty
  • Alarm
  • Distance to run
  • Expected arrival time
  • Average speed
  • Speed warning

Plug in the distance to your destination, and soon the SID gives you your estimated time of arrival.

The new
Kenwood glass cockpit links to your iPhone and Apple maps gives you directions and traffic warnings.

You can make and answer calls remotely, receive and send messages, listen to your music, TuneIn Radio, podcasts and audiobooks.

The cruise control makes highway driving a delight.

It has new LED headlights, normally found on top end new European cars, making night driving pleasurable. Saab’s Night Mode Cockpit also turns off all gauges except the speedo, until they are needed.

Luxurious, warmed seats and climate control keep you comfortable.

When you find an exciting road the spirited Saab engine, nifty second and third gears, Koni front end and reliable brakes raise your pulse rate. Teamed with the Michelin Pilot tyres, the steering is direct and predictable.

The cargo area is immense. Seats fold forward easily. You can chuck your bike inside. No need for roof racks or trailers to spoil the clean lines or fuel economy.

Pilots of the Saab 340 (used by Regional Express) will tell you how the aircraft cockpit is comfortable and ergonomic. The same applies to Saab cars.

From the moment you locate the ignition switch, and learn the nifty Saab secret to starting the car, you will be hooked. No need of the immobiliser and factory-built car alarm … but they are there too.

The best security device? It’s a five speed manual. These days, only an elite few can pilot this car.

Join the club.

Maintenance & Upgrading Project

The car has never been crashed; was garaged and rarely-driven for 13 years after Ansett collapsed in 2001. Since retiring to Melbourne in late 2016 the owner has embarked on making the car perfect. Servicing has only been done by:

Mentone Saab,
Officer-Smith Motors,
Wantirna Motors, and
SSS Motors.

The current work has been a done as a project with
Lee Tambouras from SSS Motors in Southbank, Melbourne.

Since 2016 over $18,000 has been spent on the car:

New clutch
Radiator
Muffler and exhaust system
Water pump
Hoses
Koni front shock absorbers
Front disc brakes and rotors
Front lower control arms
Rear brakes and rotors
Handbrake pads
Belt, belt tensioner & idler pulley
All filters inc ventilation filter
Spark plugs
Timing chain
LED headlights have been fitted
Saab badges replaced
Wiper blades
Accelerator cable
Replaced brake booster (second hand)
4 Michelin pilot tyres (1yr old)
Recent battery (1yr old)

Minor dents have been removed, and the car is regularly detailed.

A Saab 93 sports exhaust pipe has been fitted, along with
Koni Shocks and a wooden dashboard.

A
Kenwood digital radio / DVD / CD / Apple CarPlay player with rear reversing camera has been installed.

To Spend

The long wish list has nearly been completed. To make the car perfect, the remaining items are:

  • Handbrake cable should be replaced within a year.

  • Rear spoiler could do with a respray.
(When the car was garaged some pigeons used the top of the rear spoiler as a toilet.)

  • The driver's seat squab could do with re-padding.

  • The windscreen could do with replacement (21 years of fine sand blasting).

  • The window tinting could do with replacement. (Happy Tint have quoted about $300)

  • The digital radio aerial could benefit from being replaced with a "Shark Fin" arial to increase range. (Installed by “NoLimit" in City Road, South Melbourne)

  • Rear speakers are due for replacement, (No Limit have quoted about $200).

With the completion of this work the car would be perfect, affording a further ten years of luxury motoring.

The car has two SRS Airbags, driver and front passenger. They are
NOT Takata bags and are not part of the recall.

In four years it reaches the historic milestone, allowing a buyer to obtain Club Plate status with commensurate reduction in registration costs: $75 registration for 45 days ($150 for 90 days) driving a year.

This is an ideal first car. You just have to learn to drive a manual.
